Mattgick Banner

CANDLES

Light a candle for your favorite family member... or murderer.

Mattgick Prayer Candles are available in two dark collections: The Addams Family and The Serial Killer Series. Each candle measures approximately 2" x 8" and comes in two versions: Traditional Wax Candle is the real thing. Light it, burn it, and contemplate the darkness.

Electronic LED Candle has an eerie glow with no open flame. Perfect for displays, altars, nightstands, or places where setting things on fire is generally frowned upon. Macabre. Devotional. Slightly inappropriate.

Choose your saint... or your sinner.

TAROT

ALEISTER CROWLEY

This deck below pays homage to Aleister Crowley. I designed it around the structure of the Major Arcana from the tarot, weaving in symbols and transitions inspired by those cards. I also incorporated Jungian archetypes to deepen the psychological underpinnings of the piece, creating a layered narrative that bridges esoteric tradition with modern introspective theory.

THE HOLY MOUNTAIN

This deck below pays homage to The Holy Mountain. It is the Mexican avant-garde surrealist film directed, written, produced, co-scored, and co-edited byAlejandro Jodorowsky.

OLD PAGES

These pages start with me tea-staining paper. Then I create them in Photoshop and print them on the dried, ironed paper. This set is for my Vampire Kill Kits. You can purchase it seperately as well.

Artist Statement

ARTIST STATEMENT

Much of my digital work begins with my own photography. Through compositing, digital collage, and photographic assemblage, I combine images, rearrange elements, and build new compositions from familiar pieces. A photograph might provide the foundation, a texture, or just one small detail in a larger imagined world.

Photography, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator are my primary tools. Using layers, masks, color adjustments, textures, and post-production effects, I explore how those pieces can come together. Sometimes the changes are subtle; other times, the original photographs become something entirely unexpected. Nearly 30 years as a professional photographer and graphic designer inform how I work with light, color, composition, and detail.

Experimentation is central to my process. I move between techniques, revisit images, and follow ideas as they develop. As Adobe continues to incorporate AI-assisted features directly into Photoshop and Illustrator, these tools have naturally become part of my existing digital workflow. Their integration is not something I control, but I have found that many of these new features can significantly assist and streamline my production process. I use them alongside the hands-on editing, compositing, photography, design, and image-making techniques that have always formed the foundation of my practice. The technology may provide new possibilities and efficiencies, but the creative decisions, direction, selection, refinement, and final artistic judgment remain my own.

What draws me to this work is the freedom to move beyond what the camera originally captured. Separate moments, places, and textures can coexist in a single image, creating connections and possibilities that weren’t there before. This page brings together those digital explorations. If you’d like to explore my physical studio work, you’ll find it on my Made by Hand page. Each is a different expression of the same impulse: to experiment, make something meaningful, and share it.

My hope is that you’ll find something here that moves you, makes you curious, or brings you joy.

FOR ODDITIES SHOW ORGANIZERS:

I generally only exhibit my Made by Hand art at oddities events. If I contact you about participating and you don’t want anything that has been touched by electronics, simply tell me. I’ll respect that and won’t feature it at your show.
